Grandmothers recepie

Older people leave this life more and more rapidly, as a result we lose the connection between generations, the traditions go away. Modern cooking is influenced by different cultures, often the authenticity of the national cuisine is lost. The most assimilated is the Jewish cuisine, because the Jews have to live among other nations. The participants think that it is important to keep at least what’s left in the memories, and personal examples of our grandparents. Since July 1, 2016 the project “Grandma’s recipes” was launched. The aim of the project is to create a unique Jewish cookbook “Grandma’s recipes.”

The objective of the project is to collect memories and recipes from elderly people for their preservation and transfer to the younger generation, as well as to teach them cooking traditional Jewish dishes. Also in the objectives of the project is included getting known with the “Kosher” concept. Prepared food will be donated to people in need or those who find it difficult to cook for themselves.

HAND OVER THE BATTERY – SAVE THE NATURE!

Our volunteers have organized the new action  “Hand Over the Battery — Save the Nature!”.

The purpose is to draw the attention to the environment protection. This action urges each of us to think of that how much harm the thrown-out batteries do, not only to the environment, but also to our health. Batteries contain mercury, nickel, cadmium, lead, lithium, manganese and zinc which have the peculiarity  to be accumulated in live organisms including in a human body, and to do essential harm to the health. And one finger-type battery which is carelessly thrown out in the garbage can  pollute with the heavy metals about 20 square meters of the earth.

The box for the collection of the used batteries is in Hesed’s foyer.

Save a tree – recycle used paper!

Save a tree – recycle used paper! Under this call in our Hesed there runs Ecological Action that cosists of collecting waste paper. If you are going to throw out an old newspaper, book or magazine, think about wouldn’t it be better to bring it to us.

Why is it useful to collect waste paper? Firstly, because the paper is mainly produced from wood, and to grow a suitable tree it takes at least 50 years. Trees are cut more active than are planted new ones. It is time to think about consequences, isn’t it? From a tonne of waste paper 25,000 notebooks can be produced. In addition, 60 kg of waste paper keep from cutting one tree.

Secondly, the production of paper is a process that requires a lot of water and energy. A tonne of recycled paper saves 200 cubic meters of water and 1,000 kW / h of electricity.

Our volunteers also help to take out a large amount of paper from those who can not do it theirselves.

PROJECT «WE ARE NEXT TO YOU» (SKYPE AT HOME)

Having communicated to the elderly population our volunteers have understood that there is a need to attach elderly people to the modern technologies thanks to which they will be able to communicate with their relatives abroad. “We are Next to You” project (Skype at home) reduces the level of social isolation of the elderly wards limited in movement, giving them an opportunity of communication with their friends, relatives, and other members of the community. In addition, one of the tasks is the involvement of the elderly wards limited in movement of the community life, providing them the information and photos of the community life, about the actions happening in the community, and also giving them an opportunity to comment and make offers. Also, our volunteers train in computer literacy  the elderly wards limited in movement by granting them a possibility to use the personal computer, the Internet, and various computer programs. At the moment 15 elderly wards are constant participants of this project. For the present they don’t use the computer independently, but the initial fear has already passed.
